The neighbourhood
Between the modernity of Gueliz and the ancient labyrinth of the medina, the Majorelle district occupies a singular position in Marrakech — neither too remote nor too intense, but exactly right. Wide, tree-lined boulevards. A rhythm that is distinctly human. Afternoon light that falls on ochre walls with the quality of a painting.
Built around one of the world's most celebrated gardens, the district has quietly become the preferred address for those who visit Marrakech seriously — travellers who know the city well enough to choose where they stay with care.
Majorelle sits precisely between Gueliz and the medina. You are 10 minutes by taxi from Jemaa el-Fna, 5 minutes from the best restaurants, and 2 minutes on foot from Morocco's most iconic garden. A rare combination that very few addresses in the city can match.
Wide boulevards replace the narrow lanes of the medina. The neighbourhood is quiet by nightfall, consistently safe, and designed for on-foot exploration. A quality of daily life that is genuinely unusual in a city as vibrant as Marrakech.
Beyond the garden, the Majorelle district rewards slow exploration: independent boutiques, gallery cafés, acclaimed restaurants and neighbourhood terraces, all within a 10-minute walk of each other. You can spend an entire week without leaving.

Jardin Majorelle
Created by French painter Jacques Majorelle beginning in 1924, the garden took more than forty years to complete. He cultivated a botanical refuge of extraordinary ambition: twelve acres of palm groves, bamboo forests, water gardens and cactus collections, all unified by the cobalt blue that would carry his name — Majorelle Blue.
In 1980, Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé purchased the garden from ruin and spent three decades restoring and expanding it. After Saint Laurent's death in 2008, his ashes were scattered among the roses in the garden he described as one of the places he was happiest on earth.
Today, Jardin Majorelle draws over 700,000 visitors a year — among the most visited cultural sites in all of Morocco. Our apartments are a 2-minute walk from the entrance.

Cultural landmark
Opened in October 2017, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech is one of the most significant cultural institutions in Africa — and the building itself is as extraordinary as its contents.
Designed by Studio KO, the museum's architecture is a conversation between contemporary form and Moroccan craft: warm terracotta volumes, geometric screen patterns inspired by moucharabieh latticework, and an interior silence that pulls you inward from the moment you cross the threshold.
The permanent collection documents the full arc of Saint Laurent's creative life — over 5,000 garments, 15,000 accessories, sketches, photographs and personal objects. At its heart is his relationship with Morocco, a country he first visited in 1966 and that fundamentally changed his palette and his vision of beauty. “Marrakech taught me colour,” he said.
Five thousand garments spanning four decades — from the 1962 Mondrian dress to the final Autumn/Winter 2002 collection. Each room illuminates a different chapter of a creative life shaped by Morocco.
Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty's design is one of the finest contemporary buildings in Morocco. The terracotta volume, geometric screens and shaded interior courtyard create an atmosphere as carefully curated as the collection inside.
The museum hosts major temporary exhibitions throughout the year, connecting YSL's vision to contemporary designers, photographers and artists. Check current programming before your visit.
A combined ticket gives access to both the museum and the garden. The two sites share an entrance area and are effectively one cultural destination — 2 minutes on foot from our apartments.

Majorelle is widely regarded as the finest area to stay in Marrakech for travellers who value culture, calm and quality. The district is centred on Jardin Majorelle — one of Morocco's most iconic cultural sites — and offers wide boulevards, excellent restaurants, and a residential atmosphere that is rare in a city as vibrant as Marrakech.
Jardin Majorelle is approximately 2.5 km from Jemaa el-Fna, Marrakech's main medina square. By petit taxi the journey takes around 10 minutes. Some travellers choose to walk the full route through the Gueliz neighbourhood, which takes around 25–30 minutes.
Nomad Living offers three premium apartments within a 2-minute walk of Jardin Majorelle: the Majorelle Rooftop Apartment (private 30 m² rooftop terrace), the Majorelle Garden View Apartment (direct views of the garden) and the Majorelle Balcony Apartment (110 m², private balcony). All three can be booked directly at best-guaranteed rates.
Yes. The Majorelle district is consistently one of the safest areas in Marrakech. It is a calm, well-lit residential neighbourhood with wide boulevards and a strong local community. Guests consistently describe it as peaceful and easy to navigate, day and night.
Jardin Majorelle covers 12 acres and contains over 300 plant species: bamboo forests, palm groves, water gardens and cactus collections, all unified by the cobalt blue that carries Majorelle's name. The garden also contains the Musée Yves Saint Laurent and the Musée Berbère. Entrance fees are typically 80–100 MAD; the garden is best visited early morning or late afternoon.
Absolutely. The Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech is one of the finest fashion and design museums in Africa. Opened in 2017, it houses a permanent collection of over 5,000 YSL garments and documents his profound relationship with Morocco, a country that transformed his palette. The building itself — designed by Studio KO — is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture.
The Musée Yves Saint Laurent is located directly adjacent to Jardin Majorelle — the two are effectively one cultural destination. The museum entrance is a 30-second walk from the garden entrance. A combined ticket covers both sites.
Both offer fundamentally different experiences. The medina is immersive, intense and deeply traditional — but demanding to live in. The Majorelle district offers a calmer, more refined experience with easier logistics, better restaurants and more consistent accommodation quality. Many experienced Marrakech travellers choose Majorelle specifically because they want something different from the medina.
Online booking is available and recommended during peak season (October–April and July–August). On quieter days, tickets can be purchased at the entrance. The garden is best visited before 9am or after 4pm to avoid peak crowds and experience the light at its most beautiful.
Yes. Gueliz, Marrakech's modern city centre, is a pleasant 10–15 minute walk from the Majorelle district along wide, shaded boulevards. The walk passes boutique shops, cafés and gardens. Most guests find themselves making this walk regularly during their stay.
